Summary
In this video I walk through the entire process for handling product translations in our system. I start by emphasizing that all edits must be made in the French version of a product; the English version should never be the source of changes. If a product currently shows English, I switch it to French before making any modifications.
Next, I open the product list and point out the icon system: a pencil icon means the French and English texts are synchronized (translation is complete), while an arrow icon appears when the French side has been changed and the English side needs to be updated. I demonstrate this by adding a new text block to a product, saving the product, and then returning to the product list where the pencil is replaced by arrows.
I click the arrows, which takes me to the translation module. The module shows the current translation completion percentage (e.g., 94 %). I locate the empty field that was created by the new French text, click the plus button, enter the English translation, and save. After saving, the completion percentage jumps to 100 % and the system redirects back to the product page. I note that the pencil icon may not appear instantly; a page reload confirms that the translation is now marked as complete.
To illustrate removal, I delete the previously added text, go back to the product list, and click the icon again. Because the change has been undone, the translation status remains at 100 % and no further action is required.
I also cover the scenario where the French version is correct but a small tweak is needed on the English side. In that case I click the pen (edit) icon on the English field, make the correction, and save; this does not affect the overall translation workflow.
Finally, I recap the key rules: always start in French, never edit English first, and let the system automatically handle non‑textual attributes such as weight, price, and other numbers—they are not translated but copied over. The French side is edited in the French interface, and the English side is edited only via the translation module or the pen icon when a fix is required.
